== Warning == Since you're about to run your own server, you should be aware of the possible dangers. Running by the instructions below should not put you at any risk, but this is a wiki which everybody is allowed to edit, and we don't know about your system configuration, so we canβt guarantee you'll be 100% out of danger. In order to run your server and stay out of trouble, we highly suggest that you should at least know about the following: * Using the command-line and editing configuration files * Networking in general (IP, DHCP, ports, etc.) * Your system configuration * Your network configuration * Your router configuration (if you want other people to connect over the Internet) Some Security Information:<!-- Make sure you actually understand what you are doing before editing this. Do not provide any misleading or incorrect information. --> * When you publicize your server make sure of: ** Your server is not running on a super user(root(Linux)) ** Make sure that port 25, Port 465, port 587 is off(Mail port(Security risk/excessive background calculation risk)) ** Make sure that port 22 (Remote shell port) is on a whitelist with a SSH key(if you are even using this otherwise turn this off) ** Make sure of your current Server type and version(update or skip vulnerable versions) ** Check over your server plugins and mods for known vulnerabliities ** Don't test plugins on the primary server instance ** Make sure that the account does not have any root capabilities what so ever(exp: sudo) * Your ports should always be fire-walled to prevent intrusion * You should regularly make server backups * For personal servers: ** Keep the server published only to a local host port
