The year saw a transition from [[La Niña]] to [[El Niño]], with record high [[Global surface temperature|global average surface temperatures]]. The most common weather events to have a significant impact are [[blizzard]]s, [[cold wave]]s, [[drought]]s, [[heat waves]], [[wildfire]]s, [[flood]]s, [[tornado]]es, and [[tropical cyclone]]s.
